Research progress over the past decade has brought a paradigm shift in dry eye management. In the past, dry eye disease was regarded as a condition solely due to decreased secretion of tear fluid from the lacrimal gland. Today, dry eye disease is considered a multifactorial disease primarily caused by deficiency of the tear film lipid layer (meibomian gland dysfunction). Furthermore, dry eye disease should be treated based on level of disease severity in agreement with the recent guidelines given by the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (The International Dry Eye Workshop (2007). The Norwegian Dry Eye Clinic adheres to the evidence-based guidelines and customizes a treatment plan for you.
